Description:

Effective EVS financial control in a skilled nursing environment centers on the rigorous stewardship of labor, supply chains, and operational compliance to ensure budgetary integrity. Key mechanisms for maintaining these controls include:

  • Labor Optimization: Strategically differentiating between productive and non-productive labor, managing overtime impact on Profit & Loss (P&L) statements, and adjusting workforce allocation based on census fluctuations.
  • Budgetary Oversight: Managing departmental fiscal budgets and monthly operating reports, implementing budget adjustments through addenda, and conducting accurate forecasting for new business opportunities.
  • Inventory & Asset Control: Utilizing standardized "IN/OUT" tracking systems for high-loss items like linen to verify inventory levels against par requirements, and enforcing company purchasing policies for equipment and travel expenditures.
  • Contract Management: Aligning staffing models with specific contractual service parameters, reconciling supplemental billing requests, and maintaining oversight of census-driven contracts to ensure alignment with organizational financial objectives.

Robotics:
As senior living and healthcare environments face increasing pressure from labor shortages and rising operational costs, the integration of robotics is transitioning from a novelty to a critical operational strategy. This session explores the transformative future of Environmental Services (EVS) through the lens of advanced automation, specifically utilizing artificial intelligence, autonomous mapping, and real-time data analytics.

We will examine how robotic floor-care systems do more than clean; they act as force multipliers that allow operators to:
-- Drive Labor Optimization: By offloading repetitive, physically demanding cleaning tasks, facilities can repurpose existing staff toward high-touch, resident-facing activities, enhancing the quality of care and hospitality.
-- Maximize Operational Transparency: Leveraging robotics provides leadership with granular KPIs—such as productivity coverage maps, water usage, and real-time efficiency metrics—enabling data-driven budgetary oversight.
-- Enhance Sustainability & Safety: Integrating smart technology reduces waste, ensures consistent disinfection standards, and creates a leaner, more resilient operational model.

Attendees will gain insights into how HHS is shifting the narrative from "labor replacement" to "human augmentation," proving that the future of robotics in EVS is not about removing the human touch, but elevating it to foster a safer, more efficient, and resident-centered environment.

Emerging pathogens:
The modern skilled nursing and senior living environment faces an increasingly complex epidemiological landscape. As emerging pathogens become more prevalent and transmission dynamics evolve, the role of Environmental Services (EVS) has shifted from routine maintenance to a critical first line of defense in infection prevention. This session examines the intersection of clinical risk and operational strategy, exploring how facilities can fortify their defenses against emerging threats. We will address the evolving challenges of high-acuity disinfection, the implementation of rigorous, evidence-based cleaning protocols, and the integration of surveillance technology to rapidly identify and contain potential outbreaks. Attendees will gain actionable insights into balancing heightened sanitization requirements with staff workflow, ensuring that protective measures support—rather than hinder—the dignity and well-being of the residents we serve.
