Sexuality in Nursing Homes: The Heart has no Wrinkles
Laci Cornelison, PEAK 2.0 Project Coordinator; MS, LBSW, AHCA
1.0 RC

The sexuality of the residents we care for has long been a taboo subject. As caregivers on the front lines know, avoidance of the topic does not make it go away. Sexuality is a normal human need that does not stop when crossing the nursing home threshold. Learn ways that, as a caregiver, you can honor resident sexuality and respond to inappropriate sexual expression.

Learning Lab: Bathing Alternatives
Laci Cornelison, PEAK 2.0 Project Coordinator; MS, LBSW, AHCA
1.0 RC

Do you work with a resident who consistently refuses showers, baths, and whirlpools? Does this resident holler, scream or become combative and tense during bathing? Bathing alternatives are an important tool to eliminate this caregiving challenge. In this learning lab, you will get hands-on instruction in several key bathing alternative methods known to enhance person-centered care practices. You will also receive tools to take back to your organizations for immediate use.

Introduction to Mental Health First Aid: Caring for the Older Adult
Brenda Groves, Quality Improvement Consultant; Operator & LPN

Just as CPR helps you assist an individual having a heart attack, Mental Health First Aid helps you assist someone experiencing a mental health or substance use-related crisis. In this session you will learn what mental health first aid is and will be introduced to the MHFA action plan as it relates to caring for older adults with mental illness and substance use disorders.
