Annual Workers Compensation Seminar

KING is pleased to sponsor this year’s Annual Workers Compensation Seminar.   Seminar highlights include OSHA Grant Funded Training- Resident to Staff Aggression Prevention and Response Training, 2023 Safety Grant and Case Law Update.
 
All KING members are encouraged to have a representative attend this important event.  All LeadingAge Kansas members are welcome to attend.  Administrators and nurses will receive continuing education credits for attending the entire seminar. 
 
KING is a group-funded workers compensation pool that has provided workers compensation coverage for members since April 1, 1990.  KING is an innovator in workers compensation and has developed specific programs for elder care organizations:
  • Loss control programs specifically tailored for your organization
  • Innovative programs including the Safe-lift and STAR training program
  • Aggressive claims management
  • Nurse case management for incidents involving lifting or transferring of residents and other potentially difficult claims
  • Over $8 Million in dividends returned to members
 
Who Should Attend?
Human Resource Professionals, Administrators, Nurses and any staff responsible for workers’ compensation in their organization should attend.  Every KING member should have a representative attend this seminar.

Faculty
Amy SipleAPRN is a national speaker on health care issues that impact older adults and the empowerment of health care givers.  She has been serving the primary care needs of residents in long term care as a nurse practitioner for over 23 years.  Amy has been appointed by three Kansas Governors to serve on boards and task forces to represent the needs of older adults through the years and currently serves on the Kansas board for Adult Care Home Executives. Amy is a Ted X speaker, a content expert for Project Echo, and the President of the Kansas Advanced Practice Nurses Association.
 
Travis Bennett is the Associate Director, National Casualty Loss Control Leader with Risk Strategies. Travis provides loss control consultation and began working with KING members 10 years ago.  He holds numerous safety certifications and professional memberships.  Previously, Travis was the Environmental Safety & Health Specialist for Black & Veatch/Overland Contracting and the Safety Specialist and Safety Manager for Walton Construction Company.
 
Kevin McFarland is the President of the KING program.  Kevin has been with LeadingAge Kansas & KING for nearly 37 years.  Kevin manages the operation of KING – a group-funded workers compensation pool providing risk management services to over 60 LeadingAge Kansas members.  Kevin earned his Bachelor Degree in Social Work from Kansas State University.  He was the Director of Social Services at Meadowlark Hills in Manhattan prior to joining LeadingAge Kansas in 1985.
 
Jeff Cox is the Director of Alternative Risk for Thomas McGee Group.  Jeff is responsible for both business development and ongoing consultation to clients who utilize alternative risk solutions in their risk management program(s).  Jeff has 32 years of experience in the alternative risk arena, focusing primarily on self-insurance, pooling, and group captives. Jeff is a graduate of the University of Kansas, earning a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration in 1987.

Mike Entz has been the primary legal counsel for the KING program for over 15 years.  Mike has defended numerous workers compensation claims and worked closely with Thomas McGee claims adjusters and LeadingAge Kansas members.  Mike’s practice also involves multi-party commercial construction litigation.  Mike earned his Bachelor of Science Degree in business administration from the University of Kansas, Masters Degree in Business from Washburn University and Juris Doctorate from Washburn University School of Law. 

Continuing Education:
This program is approved for up to 4.5 continuing education clock hours for Licensed Adult Care Home Administrators, Adult Care Home Operators and Dietitians in the Core of Administration by the Kansas Department of Aging and Disability Services. Provider number (LTS A0009). 

The Kansas State Board of Nursing approves the LeadingAge Kansas as a provider of continuing education. This course is approved for 4.5 continuing education hours applicable to RN, APRN and LPN re-licensure (KSBN LT0102-1116).
