It’s back and it’s going to be better than ever! This training is designed for CNAs, CMAs and RAs. Others are welcome to attend, but this educational opportunity has been planned specifically for hands-on caregivers.  

This year’s workshop will be focused on providing individualized to care to residents.  Sessions will include person-centered bathing and dementia care to help caregivers better meet resident needs.  Caregivers will also explore strategies for self-care/personal wellness and their impact.

Care for the Caregiver - Amy Siple, NP
Compassion fatigue has plagued many caregivers resulting in emotional and physical distress. This presentation will help participants identify personal areas of compassion satisfaction vs. compassion fatigue. We will discuss ways to create positivity and promote self-care.
Learning Objectives:
Identify at least two risk factors for compassion fatigue.
Recognize how interdisciplinary team work can promote well-being.
Recall at least two strategies to promote compassion satisfaction.
Identify at least two ways caregiver self-care can improve resident outcomes.

Person-Centered Bathing - Laci Cornelison, AHCA, PEAK 2.0 Project Director
Do you work with a resident who consistently refuses showers, baths, and whirlpools? Does this resident holler, scream or become combative and tense during bathing? Bathing alternatives are an important tool to eliminate this caregiving challenge. In this learning lab, you will get hands-on instruction in several key bathing alternative methods known to enhance person-centered care practices. You will also receive tools to take back to your organizations for immediate use.
Learning Objectives:
Participants will learn to identify when bathing alternatives should be tried.
Participants will develop skills in using bathing alternatives though hands-on training.
Participants will learn from each other through small group experiential learning.

Understanding and Responding to Residents with Dementia - Brenda Groves KFMC, Certified Dementia Care Trainer
Learning Objectives:

In this session, we will discuss how Alzheimer’s Disease and other related dementias differ in symptom presentation and management. Participants will gain strategies for a holistic, person-centered approach to care and management of behavioral expressions.
Identify types of dementia and their typical symptoms
Name triggers for dementia behaviors
Share strategies for preventing and responding to dementia behaviors

 

 

 

Human Brain Exercise- Attendees will form a brain to experience the changes caused by dementia.
