LeadingVoice Advocacy BootcampParticipants in the LeadingVoice Advocacy Bootcamp will engage in hands-on learning and activities to empower their grassroots advocacy efforts for aging services. Advocates will learn about and practice advocacy fundamentals before putting them to practice at the final session: Aging Services Day at the Capitol. Kylee Childs, Director of Government Affairs with LeadingAge Kansas, along with guest experts present the bootcamp. This program is run on alternating years with the Leadership Fellowship.
Applications for the 2024-2025 LeadingVoice Advocacy Bootcamp are Now Open!About the BootcampThe goal of this bootcamp is to empower grassroots advocates for aging services in Kansas. The training is available to any individual in an aging services role or educational program and interested in enhancing their advocacy skills. The training is for current and new advocates alike. Attendees will participate in leadership and team building exercises, a tour of the Kansas Capitol, mock hearings. They will hear from guest speakers and experts on policy analysis, ethical and legal considerations, media and public relations, and more. The program is designed for anyone at any level to attend. Students, entry-level employeesm supervisors, administrators, clinical, non-clinical, and board members who are passionate about aging services are invited to attend. Space is limited to 15 individuals. Interested individuals must complete the Registration Application, submit the registration fee, and attend all sessions. Individuals who complete all sessions will receive their certificate of completion in a recognition ceremony at the briefing for Aging Services Day. Structure & Meeting DatesThree sessions will take place in November, December, and the following February. The first two sessions will each be two days of classroom learning and various activities. The third and final session will allow individuals to put their newly acquired or finely tuned advocacy skills to practice at Aging Services Day at the Kansas Capitol. Costs for hotels and transportation will need to be covered separately by the participant (and/or their employer). Students: $100 LeadingAge Kansas Provider Members: $200 Non-Members: $400 Hotel Accommodations A block of hotel rooms have been reserved at the Hotel Topeka for special group rates for attendees.
