WORKSHOP SCHEDULE

8:30-9:00 AM | Registration

9:00-11:50 AM | Staff Competencies | Sara Dieter, Health Dimensions Group | 3.0 Admin CEU

This session will include a review of the basic annual competencies that are required each year, and specific competencies based on the resident population. Attendees will examine and understand the role of the Facility Assessment to determine what areas to focus on to ensure staff are able to competently manage the specific resident population they serve. This session will also review various models of training programs that establish and validate competency, and review ways to meet competency standards with agency staff.

11:50 AM-12:30 PM | Lunch Provided at the Conference

12:30-1:20 PM | Provider Panel: Staff Competencies Best Practices | Jill McCoy, Wellsville Retirement Community; Teresa Coover, Medicalodges | 1.0 Admin CEU

This session will review the panel's staff competency programs and include examples for attendees to use in their buildings.

1:30-2:20 PM | Survey Trends & the First 45 | Dawne Altis, KDADS | 1.0 Admin CEU

This session will include the top deficiencies cited by KDADS, and concerns identified in the first 45 days following the MDS changes that were implemented on October 1st.

2:30-3:50 PM | Loving Those You Serve | Karen King, The Golden Experience | 1.5 Resident Care CEU

“I want some more love.” This is the core need of every human being, though often unspoken. To love well doesn’t require special qualifications, training, or personality to serve individuals in care communities. Perhaps the answer isn’t in what we know, but in the state of our being as we aim to better love and care for every person we are privileged to serve. Kareen King, a Registered Drama Therapist, offers encouragement through specific narratives in connecting with those most in need of our loving service.

3:50-4:00 PM | Wrap Up
