Annual Workers Compensation Seminar

Location: Larksfield Place Auditorium, 7373 E. 29th St. N, Wichita, KS 67226.
Parking is available in a lot to the right of the entry doors. Once you enter the building, follow the signs to the auditorium.  Please wear mask in the common areas they may be removed in the common areas including the auditorium.

KING is pleased to sponsor this year’s Annual Workers Compensation Seminar.   Seminar highlights include a presentation from Dr. John Estivo, the 2024 Safety Grant, Legal & Case Law Update, and Claims Best Practices Panel.

All KING members are encouraged to have a representative attend this important event.  All LeadingAge Kansas members are welcome to attend.  Administrators and nurses will receive continuing education credits for attending the entire seminar.

KING is a group-funded workers compensation pool that has provided workers compensation coverage for members since April 1, 1990.  KING is an innovator in workers compensation and has developed specific programs for elder care organizations.

Faculty
Kevin McFarland is the President of the KING program.  Kevin has been with LeadingAge Kansas & KING for nearly 38 years.  Kevin manages the operation of KING – a group-funded workers compensation pool providing risk management services to over 60 LeadingAge Kansas members.  Kevin also is the Executive Director of LeadingAge Kansas EBI – an association health plan. Kevin earned his bachelor’s degree in social work from Kansas State University.  He was the Director of Social Services at Meadowlark Hills in Manhattan prior to joining LeadingAge Kansas in 1985.

Jeff Cox is the Director of Alternative Risk for Thomas McGee Group.  Jeff is responsible for both business development and ongoing consultation to clients who utilize alternative risk solutions in their risk management program(s).  Jeff has 32 years of experience in the alternative risk arena, focusing primarily on self-insurance, pooling, and group captives. Jeff is a graduate of the University of Kansas, earning a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration in 1987.

Mike Entz has been the primary legal counsel for the KING program for over 20 years.  Mike has defended numerous workers compensation claims and worked closely with Thomas McGee claims adjusters and LeadingAge Kansas members.  Mike’s practice also involves multi-party commercial construction litigation.  Mike earned his Bachelor of Science Degree in business administration from the University of Kansas, a master’s degree in business from Washburn University and Juris Doctorate from Washburn University School of Law.

Lyndi Bernard is a claims adjuster for Thomas McGee Group and the primary adjuster for the KING program over the past year. Previously, Lyndi was the Workers’ Compensation Liaison and Care Coordinator Supervisor at Abay Neuroscience Center. Prior to her position at Abay, Lyndi was the Patient Care Coordinator at NovaCare Rehabilitation.  Lyndi graduated from Kansas State University with a degree in Kinesiology. Lyndi’s clinical experience has provided valuable knowledge and skills in her role as claim adjuster for KING members.

Nate Ward is a Loss Control Consultant for Risk Strategies and has provided Loss Control services for the KING program since 2022.  Nate covers the entire state of Kansas. Nate graduated with a degree in Environmental Health and Safety in 2021.  Nate is certified in OSHA 10 Construction and OSHA 30 General Industry. Previously, Nate worked as a Field Safety Specialist at Mears Installation.

Dr. John Estivo graduated from the A T Still University Kirksville College of Osteopathic Medicine in 1989. He works in Wichita and specializes in Orthopedic Surgery. Dr. Estivo is affiliated with Wesley Medical Center.  As an orthopedic surgeon in Kansas, Dr. Estivo is trained to detect and treat all forms of damage to the musculoskeletal system, including the tendons, ligaments, joints, bones, and muscles

Continuing Education:
This program is approved for up to 4.0 continuing education clock hours for Licensed Adult Care Home Administrators, Adult Care Home Operators and Dietitians in the Core of Administration by the Kansas Department of Aging and Disability Services. Provider number (LTS A0009). 

The Kansas State Board of Nursing approves the LeadingAge Kansas as a provider of continuing education. This course is approved for 4.0 continuing education hours applicable to RN, APRN and LPN re-licensure (KSBN LT0102-1116).
