The senior care industry is facing a major challenge: Employee Retention. According to the National Center for Health Statistics, the turnover rate for direct care workers in senior care is 60%. The high turnover rate is costly for Senior Care Organizations. Research has shown that the number one underlying challenge for employee retention in senior care is culture. A toxic work environment, a lack of respect for employees and a lack of communication and teamwork are all cultural factors that can contribute to employee turnover. This keynote will provide attendees with the tools and strategies they need to turn the tide on employee retention in senior care.

A nursing facility’s operations is in large part driven by its financial stewardship.  The fixed Medicaid and Medicare revenue streams along with private pay rate limitations makes the nursing facility’s ongoing operations contingent upon managing and controlling expenses.  We will present various strategies to assist a nursing facility with achieving and maintaining financial success.

AI has rapidly evolved in capabilities and application over the past year.  Through United Church Home's relationship with LinkAge Ventures - a team of staff were taken through a month long boot camp to better understand these capabilities and how they could be applied to various use cases in senior living.  Our team won an award during this experience for defining the 'best use case' and we will share these ideas with attendees to inspire and shape their own vision.  This includes a review of emerging tools in the space, and existing tools that can be used to build efficiency and add value (such as ChatGPT).

  • Understand what AI is and what it is not in terms of function and benefit.
  • Outline key use cases for applying AI tools within senior living operations (including service coordination).

Breakout | Dementia and Fall Risk Management: An Inter-professional, Value-Based Approach | 1.0 CE

Persons with dementia are two times more likely to fall than those without dementia (Kropelin, 2013). Dementia may also be exacerbated following a fall (Traumatic Brain Injury, 2013). There is a significant need and a growing demand for effective fall risk management for those with dementia, and this should involve inter-professional care.  Collaborative inter-professional care optimizes health services, strengthens health systems, and improves health outcomes and patient satisfaction (Gilbert, Yan, & Hoffman, 2010).  Practical techniques and applications will be examined to support this need.

  • Define inter-professional practice and outline the roles and expectations of key team members inter-professional fall risk management for persons with dementia.
  • Examine fall risk factors and how dementia impacts those factors.
  • Apply inter-professional approaches to develop meaningful interventions for fall risk management through case examples.

Use of agency staffing is costly, creates care challenges, and can hurt staff morale, but for many getting away from using it seems nearly impossible.  In this provider led session, staff from Locust Grove Village will share their methods for staffing agency elimination, their tips and tools, and the outcomes they have realized from their elimination efforts.

The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid (CMS) and its Innovation Center have set a 2030 goal to have all Medicare beneficiaries and many Medicaid beneficiaries in accountable care relationships. But what does this mean? This session will help explain what is meant by the goal and progress towards it. It will outline current accountable care models and discuss how all of this relates to other managed care and value-based care activities. Finally, providers will leave with some initial steps they can take to prepare for this future.
