8:00 – 9:00 AM Opening KeynoteReVisionary Thinking: The Science of Adapting to Change - Courtney Clark
Can you reach your goals, even if things aren’t going the way you expect? Most people are good at setting goals and making plans, but not very good at revising those plans when things change. But that’s the real work of resilience. Resilience is letting go of the “old way of doing things” and rewriting a script for success that gives you the fastest and best path from where you are to where you want to go. Backed by Courtney’s data-driven research, ReVisionary Thinking offers concrete strategies for blazing a new path when the goalposts move on you.

9:00 – 10:00 AM EXPO

10:00 – 11:15 AM General SessionDeveloping Future Leaders in Your Organization - Lou Ann Brubaker, Brubaker Consulting
Covid-19 has provided valuable insights into those on your team who could assume greater responsibility: they stepped up when you needed them. Now it’s time to more formally invest in them. Ensuring that these potential or new supervisors have the 7 necessary skills required is vital to every aspect of your success. At this general session, Lou Ann Brubaker provides an overview of each one, with specific strategies for the 4 foundation skills all others must build upon: coaching, handling attitude issues, and managing conflict.

11:15 AM – 12:30 PM Lunch in the EXPO

12:30 – 1:45 PM Breakouts

1) Developing Future Leaders in Your Organization Continued - Lou Ann Brubaker
In this 75-minute session, a deep dive is provided into 3 very formal leadership processes: setting expectations, using progressive discipline in a way more likely to retain staff, and evaluating team member’s performance. Each one calls for impeccable objectivity – and the way to assure this is described using ‘hands-on’ learning opportunities.

2) Pivoting Towards a New Mindset for Resident Engagement - Kelly A. Stranburg, M.Ed., ACSM-EP, CSCS, CDP & Sara Kyle, PhD; LE3 Solutions
Join us for this highly interactive, energetic, thought provoking, and neighborly session addressing how to pivot our mindset around resident engagement. Given the availability for people to age in place with desired clinical and social conveniences via technology, how a resident spends their day within your community is more important than ever. After quality care, engaging and meaningful opportunities that promote quality of life are essential to prospects, current residents, and families. This session will incorporate short moments of engagement (movement, mindfulness, creativity) while also imparting the foundational steps for creating a strategy for effective resident engagement at your community or organization. The strategy is not that complex, but it does require work, planning, persistence, and urgency. If we want to continue to sell senior housing options as places of well-being, social connectedness, and a setting to thrive and evolve rather than decline, we must pay attention to what matters most…how residents and staff spend their days interacting and living in pursuit of fulfilling moments, not activities to stay busy.

3) Dying Well Amy Siple, Nurse Practitioner, Educator & Speaker
When someone is given a terminal diagnosis, family and friends often rally around that individual and pledge together to fight against the disease. When death finally takes the person, those at the funeral find comfort when people say they “fought until the end”. What is the true cost of this approach, and does it rob individuals from really living and then dying well? When we are engaged in a battle it is exhausting and leaves little time for anything else. Making meaningful memories and connecting with loved ones can get pushed to the back burner as we spend all our time, energy, and resources in hospitals and searching for a miracle cure. This presentation will engage the listener as they consider stories of clients who have “fought until the end”. It will encourage them to consider their own advanced directive decisions and guide them in conversation ideas that can help client’s make informed decisions at the end of their lives.

4) Protecting our Elderly from Abuse - Tara Crisp-Schwartz, Director of Loss Prevention; Assured Partners
In this session, we will discuss the responsibilities of facilities including; a brief overview of the regulations, predictors of abuse, different types of abuse, neglect and how to reduce those risks through best practices.
